“It is better to travel well than to arrive.” – Buddha
There are numbers of things to do in McLeod Ganj, from Tibetan Food to Bhagsunag Temple to Bhagsu Falls to Triund and Indrahar Pass Trek. It’s one of the best weekend gateways from Delhi. And it’s my favorite solo travel destination.
In addition to the above, McLeod Ganj has few more interesting things to offer. If you have few hours before or after your trekking and all other activities that you have planned to do in McLeod Ganj, then you must go for a short hike from H H Dalai Lama Main Temple to the Tibetan Library. It’s a magnificent hike with stunning views.
The Main Temple is about 10 minutes walk from the Main Square. And there are 2 ways to get to the Tibetan Library from the Main temple. (See the map below) You must take route one while going to the library as it’s very easy hike and take route 2 while coming back.
On route one you’ll have beautiful views of mountains, and you’ll feel like walking in the woods.
But the best part comes later when coming back from the library to the main temple via route two. It’s pure nature, trees and birds chirping all around. And you’ll also see beautifully painted and carved prayer rocks.
And some huge Mani Prayer wheels with hundreds of small prayer wheels.
You’ll also see a lot of Tibetan prayer flags. And if you get lucky, you might meet some monks creating decorative items for temple from soil and water(mud).
And definitely an amazing view of Dharamsala city.
McLeod Ganj is a gift to Tibetans and Indians both. You must visit this place as often as you can. It will give you a head start to your spiritual journey.
